The Bristlecone Squirrel (Sciurus taterillus) is a rare, endemic species found only in the high-altitude regions of the White Mountains in California. It is closely related to the Eastern Gray Squirrel but is smaller and has a more muted color palette, with grayish-brown fur and a bushy tail. Bristlecone Squirrels live in the bristlecone pine forests, often nesting in the trees and feeding on seeds from the ancient pines. Due to its limited range and specialized habitat, the Bristlecone Squirrel is not commonly seen outside its mountainous environment.
